Lucid Idiocy is going on vacation

Lucid Idiocy will be on hiatus starting Saturday July 11 and returning July 26. I'll be traveling and unlikely to update. I hope you have a nice two weeks. And by "have a nice two weeks," I mean "miss me terribly and comb through the L.I. archives."

Lester Maddox riding a bicycle backwards

Exactly what it sounds like.

I stole this from my friend Danny Gilleland's blog. Danny is the senior photographer here at The Telegraph, which has a phenomenal photography staff, particularly for a paper our size.

He was many things, and his behavior at his restaurant towards African-Americans rather hideous; but when he became Governor, he wound up doing more for the African-Americans community in Georgia than any previous governor and many since.

I'm still amused at the thought, though, that I once rounded a corner in the Capitol and collided with then-Lieutenant Governor Maddox, while carrying a huge glass of chocolate milk (courtesy of the Georgia milk lobby), and spilled it ALL over him.
