Lucid Idiocy is going on vacation

Lucid Idiocy will be on hiatus starting Saturday July 11 and returning July 26. I'll be traveling and unlikely to update. I hope you have a nice two weeks. And by "have a nice two weeks," I mean "miss me terribly and comb through the L.I. archives."

Breaking news: Political campaigns often full of it

Is there a class somewhere teaching political operatives that it's good idea to say absolutely ridiculous things?

From "Freedom's Watch," a conservative watchdog group, today:

“While fiscal irresponsibility is certainly nothing new in Washington, the 110th Congress, led by Nancy Pelosi and Jim Marshall, has redefined the phrase ‘busting the bank,’” said Foster Morss, spokesman for Freedom’s Watch. ...

When did U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall start leading Congress? And who's president right now? Doesn't he have some sort of say in the spending?

And from the Democrats, who announced a new Web site this week called "The Next Cheney."
No matter who McCain picks, we can count on one thing -- his running mate will be just as committed to continuing the disastrous policies of the Bush administration, from the economy, to energy policy, to Iraq.

First off, won't McCain and his vice president have to win to make him or her "the next Cheney?" And how in the world could the Democratic Party know what an unnamed person's policies will be?

No wonder people don't vote. Politicians have been shoveling **** like this down their throats so long they've choked.
